Dave and Beth work with Younglife/Club Beyond in Turkey at the Incirlik Air Base.
Incirlik Air Base is located five miles east of Adana, the fifth largest city in Turkey, and 35 mi from the Mediterranean Sea.
Our primary mission here is to run Clubs, Bible studies and trips for the teens of the U.S. airmen who are stationed here. In the past year, we have had an average of 100 middle & high school kids in our programs each week and 64% of them were from non-church families.
Merhaba! Hello from Incirlik Air Base in Turkey!
Signs of fall in southern Turkey include weather in the 70's-80's, a few falling leaves (except for the pine & palm trees) and a smoky haze from the farmers burning their fields. We enjoy breakfast and devotionals on our back porch while watching planes take off to go downrange to Afghanistan & Iraq. It is a good time to pray for our troops who are defending our country.
70% of this airbase turned over this summer so we've been busy meeting new families and teenagers and recruiting new leaders. Our fall kickoff events were well attended with 80 kids & adults attending a barbeque and giant slip 'n slide in the park, 95 at the two garbage can milkshake Clubs, and 70 at the "World Series of UNO" night. These are good numbers considering that there are only 170 students in the entire middle & high school! Our goal is to meet every teen in the school and know them by name by the end of the year.
Along with the 1500 airmen plus families who live on base, there are hundreds of Turkish Air Force and families who live here in separate housing areas. This fall, we have had the opportunity to get to know some Turkish teenagers who started coming to Club Beyond. Please pray for us as we welcome these teens into Club and share God's love with them.
