Culture Session 4: Art Immersion Night - Fri, April 20, Near North Campus
We will be hosting an art immersion night. A evening filled with images of art and discussions around what they mean and how we can learn to look at art through the “Lens of Christ.” For more details
We value the arts in all their forms. Genesis chapter one says that God made us in his image, starting from nothing. Therefore, in that moment of breathing life into creation, we, as his creation, are breathing out what he has breathed into it. Our God is a creative God, and One who has given humanity a unique gift: the ability to re-create. We choose this word “recreate” because that’s much of what artists do - they create something that did not exist before using already-created materials. God is the Creator, we are the re-creators as it were. “Creativity” is one of the ways an artist bears God's image to the world.
Our desire at Park is to foster a community of artists who think of their role as artists through the lens of the gospel. We desire to better understand how art informs our theology and theology informs our art.
Park’s vision is to be a biblical community where the gospel of Jesus Christ transforms lives, renews the city and impacts the world. Part of renewing the city of Chicago means becoming part of the cultural fabric of the city - not passively consuming the culture, constantly critiquing it or condemning it, but transforming it through re-creation.
In order to foster community, we’ll often do exhibits in the Cafe, hold community wide art responses, facilitate various discussions, as well as partner up with other groups around the city doing the same.
If you are interested in being more involved in the arts, we would love to meet you! Please contact us () and let us know who you are and what kind of art you are involved in creating. We can also sign you up on an email list to inform you of when our next artistic gathering will be if you’re interested in that.
